day #14- bday :)

finally turned 24

now it's time some for some fun after some 10 days of studying

My course had a 48 hour take home final exam due today

preceeding the exam we had a 10 day revision period with no classes and I, for the first time ever, spent almost all of those days (that is excluding a saturday and sunday) studying in the main reading hall at the library.

And turns out it payed off.. in the spirit of a true champion a 48 hours exam was finished in 29 hours allowing me to spend my birthday today completely stress free :)

I'll definitely strive to keep this work ethic going after this month is over

Anyways, here are some pictures from the past week

this building is on the corner of my street.. makes me smile every time I pass by it

my pigeon friend who had no issue with modelling for me the other day

last weekend I went to the Gothenburg Art Museum to see a joint exhibition of Frida Kahlo & Diego Rivera's work

very, very lovely

(this weekend the plan is to visit another one of Gothenburg's oh so many museums)

after the museum I sat next to that ridiculously good looking cake for over 30 min without having a bite, just sticking to my tea, happy about not caving in

that café did though have some awesome looking espresso cups, I feel like I need one even though I don't really drink coffee.

So far this month has not always been easy.. there have definitely been some up and downs.

But the ups outweigh the downs by far.

I don't think I've ever eaten this many fruits and vegetables in my life and despite getting up at a ridiculous hour in the morning I'm not collapsing from tiredness around dinnertime like I expected me to be.

I've also discovered that I, unlike I ever imagined, actually prefer to go to the gym early in the morning rather than in the afternoon.
Working out, taking a rather cold shower and then jumping right into the sauna (I love you Sweden!!) all before eight o'clock is actually an awesome way to wake up

day #4

I got really proud of myself today.

I went to one of my favorite café for lunch today and for the first time ever I did not give in to the temptation of buying their sinfully good chocolate cake

normally I would just have skipped lunch all together and only had cake!
(believe me, that has happened)

there it is, the devilish kladdkaka, at an earlier visit to the café
so instead of kladdkaka I've switched to a much better kind of sweets

spinach
strawberries
ginger
&
orange juice

all thrown in the blender and the result is not only delicious but also guilt free,
unlike my dear kladdkaka nemesis

day # 2- pictureday

one of my goals for this month was to take more pictures

at least one every day

so after waking up early I went over to the library to finish my assignments and was out of there by noon

at that point there was nothing left to do but get back home, pick up the camera and go back out to enjoy the beautiful weather and try to capture some of the autumn loveliness

here's the results

(I recommend clicking on the pictures for higher resolution, completely worth it)

meistaramánuður!

meistaramánuður

a month of champions

30 challenging days of living life like a champion

DAY #1

goals:

wake up at 6am every weekday, 9am on weekends

stop snoozing

go to the gym at least three times a week before hitting up the library

make my bed every morning

keep my room tidy

speak Swedish whenever I go to the store

make a weekly study schedule and really keep on track

take at least one picture every day

cook more homemade meals and eat healthy

organize my grocery shopping better

find and read more Swedish material

no kladdkaka (i'll allow myself one exception to this one on my birthday)

I already got some Swedish learning materials today
all the while taking an Arabic crash course on how to "not look like an idiot at a flea market and actually get a bargain"

(a course that I pretty much failed)

there's no need for studying to be boring
all right,

lets do this!

autumn days

autumn has definitely arrived as it is starting to get really cold

but it's all good thanks to awesome winter jackets and massive furry gloves

Gothenburg is just so charming in the autumn colors

my fascination with the architecture here is more than enough material for another very long blog post

gotta take my camera out on the next sunny day and capture more of the city's amazing buildings

how is it possible not to love this?

Bruxelles- Köln- København

back from Belgium

with some unanticipated stops in Germany and Denmark

all in all I can confirm that broken trains, delays and hangovers don't go that well together

but it was a great trip nonetheless

and left me with a box of  some wonderful Belgium chocolates to keep me company during the next study nights

why I love göteborg #4

the vicinity of nature..

it takes no time at all to get out of the city and go to beautiful lakes, green nature

and some good old fresh air

-

today I went on a little trip with some friends to check out Delsjön for the first time

and it turned out to be just lovely

I can't wait to see what the area will look like in the winter

and I'm pretty sure this will end up being one of my favorite spots next spring.

sunny friday

today was the perfect day, not a cloud in the sky

so it didn't take us long to run out to the park after class

and take advantage of the sun and its warmth

before they leave us for the winter

somehow I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy the springtime over here
